Choose your Photos backup settings

You can change the backup quality of your photos and videos to fit your preferences, or to clean up your storage space.

Settings and features vary by device and Android version. The steps might be different on your phone.

  • Upload Size

    You can change the quality of your photos and videos or free up your storage space from the Photos app.

    Tap your account profile icon, then tap Photo Settings. Tap Back up & sync and then tap Upload size. You can upload up to 15 GB to your account daily.

  • Back up device folders

    In the “Back up & sync” menu, tap Back up device folders to select the folders you want to back up. If your photos and videos don't sync to your Google Account, check your backup status.

  • Cell data usage

    In the “Back up & sync” menu, tap Cell data usage to:

    • Back up photos using cellular data
    • Back up videos using cellular data

    Important: Charges from your service provider may apply.
