Recovering a disabled account

If your Google Account has recently been disabled, you may be able to regain access or request recovery.

Features are subject to availability. The steps may look different depending on your device.

  1. Step 1 of 8

Google Accounts are usually disabled if the account’s owner hasn’t followed our Terms or Service or other products’ policies.

When your Google Account is disabled, you won’t be able to sign in to Google services or use Sign in with Google. You’ll get an error message instead, or be directed to this help article. You might also receive a text message or email telling you that your account is disabled.

  2. Step 2 of 8

If your account is disabled, you can ask Google to restore your access. To get started, head to myaccount.google.com and enter your Gmail address.

Tip: If you can’t get in to your account, you may be able to download and save account data from some Google Services. To try downloading your data, sign in to your account as you normally do. Then, you may have the option to download your data.

  3. Step 3 of 8

Enter your password and tap Next.

  4. Step 4 of 8

    Tap Start Appeal.

  5. Step 5 of 8

    Tap Next.

  6. Step 6 of 8

Use the text box to provide details about your appeal to recover your disabled account. Tap Next.

  7. Step 7 of 8

Enter an alternative email so Google can contact you. Tap Submit appeal.

  8. Step 8 of 8

Google will review your appeal as soon as possible. Most requests take 2 business days to review, but some might take longer.

Tip: You can download data from your disabled account after you submit your appeal. Tap Download your data to get your account’s data.
