Set up Face Unlock on your Pixel - Pixel Phone Guidebook

You can use Face Unlock to unlock your Pixel phone using just your face.

The following screens are based on Pixel devices with Android 14. The steps might be different if you have an earlier operating system.

To set up Face Unlock, open the Settings app and tap Security & privacy.

Tap Device unlock.
Step 3 of 8
Tap Fingerprint & Face Unlock.

If you don’t already have a screen lock set up, you’ll be asked to add a backup PIN, pattern, or password.
Tap Face Unlock.
Step 5 of 8
Take a moment to review how Face Unlock works. When you’re finished, scroll down, and tap I agree.
Step 6 of 8
On the next screen, you’ll be prompted to set up your face unlock. Tap Start.
Step 7 of 8
Follow the prompts on screen to capture your face image.
Important: When you set up Face Unlock, don’t wear a mask or sunglasses.
Step 8 of 8
Once your face is added, tap Done.
Note: You can only sign into apps or approve a purchase with your face on Pixel 8 & later.
